Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe?

We have a 100% safety record and the Airborne trike has been tested for 6 G-forces positive and 3 G’s negative, higher than most conventional airplanes. We also fly only during optimal weather conditions and fly with a backup ballistic parachute system. Our instructors are FAA certified Sport Pilot Flight Instructors and FAA certified Light Sport Repairmen for Weight Shift Control and Fixed Wing aircraft. We have been flying since 1999 and have a perfect safety record. We’ve never had an engine quit or had to use the ballistic parachute.

Are there age, weight, or height limitations?

We do not have any age restrictions to take a flight. We do recommend a minimum weight of 80 lbs. For children lighter than 80 lbs, the 70 mph forward speed may be a little much. We can take folks who weigh up to 235 lbs and comfortably up is 6’6″ tall. Depending on your build, we may decline customers who are at the extremes of our seat width or seatbelt length. Please contact us in advance of making a reservation with additional questions.

What should I wear?

We recommend you wear clothing that is comfortable for the day (you’ll be better off in shorts or pants than sundresses). Before we take off, we’ll give you a flight suit to wear which will keep you warm and comfortable during your flight. If you get cold easily, you may want a long sleeve shirt or light sweater under the flight suit. In addition, we’ll give you a headset and helmet with visor.

Glasses or contact lenses are fine. If you want to wear sunglasses during your flight, we recommend NON-polarized lenses to reduce interference with the plastic visor. Also, be sure to wear secure shoes. Sandals are fine as long as they have a back strap and are secure on your feet. Sorry, no flip-flops (thong-type shoes) or slip-ons.

What if the weather turns?

This isn’t a “Rain or Shine” experience. We don’t fly unless the weather is ideal.

You are always welcome to call us if you have questions about the weather. But if the weather predicts rain or high winds we will contact you to reschedule.

For that reason, it’s extremely important that you are available to receive a phone call within 48 hours before your scheduled flight time.

In the event that we do have to cancel, we’ll do our very best to work with you to reschedule a flight as soon as possible.

Can I bring a camera or GoPro?

No cameras, cell phones, or anything loose in your hands are allowed on board. The reason is that we will be cruising around at 70 mph in an open cockpit with the engine and propeller directly behind us. If anything were to come loose, it would go right through the propeller. For safety reasons, we are very strict on this rule. You may opt to add photos or video from a wing-mounted camera during your online reservation process. Costs are listed on our pricing page.

How do I make reservations?

Visit our reservations page or call us directly.

How do I pay?

We currently accept all major credit cards, cash, or checks at the time of your appointment.

What if I need to cancel?

Adirondack Aerosports has a 24-hour cancellation policy. When you book your hang gliding flight, we reserve your scheduled flying time with an instructor who prepares in advance for your lesson. If you are unable to make your reservation, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance. Cancelations made less than 24 hours in advance will be charged 50% of your flight's cost.

Thank you for your cooperation.

When is the best time or day or year to fly?

We fly during sunrise and sunset, when the winds are lightest and the flying is the most smooth. We start early in the morning and fly for the first 3 hours of each day. In the summer, we’re usually flying from 7am – 10am. Then we start up again around sunset and fly for the last 3 hours of each day, usually between 5pm - 8pm. We fly during the months of June, July, August, September and often into early October.

Where are you located?

443 Queensbury Ave, Queensbury, NY 12804

Can couples go together?

No, this is a unique one-on-one instructional flight experience and the aircraft is designed for only one student and one instructor.

Do I need a license to fly?

No license or registration is required for a Single-Seat Ultralight. Since September 4th, 2005, a Sport Pilot Certificate or Basic Flight Instructor Rating is required for the legal operation of a Two-Seat Aircraft. An FAA certified Sport Pilot Flight Instructor will pilot the trike alongside you during your flight.
